Go Cubs, GO!

Summer in Chicago was made official this weekend by Nolan and my first Cubs Game of the season, a sunburn on my feet and the first 70 degree day we've had this year!

The Cubs played the Florida Marlins this past weekend, winning the weekend series 3-1, including Sunday's, 6 to 4 victory we attended with Jackie (roommate), Cassie (roommate's sister), and Lucas (roommate's brother-in-law)! Cassie and Lucas came in from Michigan to enjoy the gorgeous weekend!

Ready for Chicago Sports Info?

Since moving to Chicago we've enjoyed our share of sports games, The Bears, The Bulls, The Cubs, and The Blackhawks! (Yes, I intentionally left out The White Sox! Because in Chicago you can only root for ONE baseball team!) A strong team loyalty was new to Nolan and I coming from Nevada, a state without professional sports' teams. In Nevada, we watching games but had no true loyalty. Forced to choose a baseball team and answering quickly if a fellow Chicagoan asked you about your team came as a shock!! Last year, we moved into a nice 3 flat, graystone in Wrigleyville so we easily picked the CUBIES! They were a natural inherited choice for me anyway... that's Dad's team!

Something that I LOVE:

At the conclusion to every Cubs victory is their SONG!

Go, Cubs, Go
by Steve Goodman

Go, Cubs, Go
Go, Cubs, Go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

They got the power, they got the speed
To be the best in the National League
Well this is the year and Cubs are real
So come on down to Wrigley Field.
We're singing now ...
Go, Cubs, Go

So stamp your feet and clap your hands
Chicago Cubs got the greatest fans.
You're singing now
Go, Cubs, Go ...

Hey Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

Wikipedia says: The song "Go, Cubs, Go!" is often played over the loudspeakers when the Cubs win a game at Wrigley Field. The song was recorded early in the 1984 season, and was heard frequently during that season. Since 1984, the song started being played from time to time at Wrigley; since 2007, the song has been played over the loudspeakers at Wrigley Field following each victory by the home squad.

I never realized how much fun a little ol' song could be. Yet, I know more than ever how much singing, chanting and hooting and hollering can be since RUGBY!

A little more Wrigley Field info:

Wikipedia says: The "Bleacher Bums" is a name given to fans, many of whom spend much of the day heckling, who sit in the bleacher section at Wrigley Field. Initially, the group was called "bums" because it referred to a group of fans who were at most games, and since those games were all day games, it was assumed they did not work.

YOUR VERY OWN BLEACHER BUMS!!!

FYI, The Chicago Bears of the National Football League played at Wrigley Field from 1921 to 1970 before relocating to Soldier Field.
